M.S. in Human-Computer Interaction
Coming from a competitive undergrad and consulting environment, I felt like the courses were fairly easy (though a good amount of work) to get through. The coursework was not as in-depth as I thought it would be, but the supplemental workshops were very helpful. Personally, I need a structured environment to learn, so while I’m sure you can find all of the material online or through textbooks I would have never been able to self-study all of that material. I was able to get a job as an Experience Design Consultant during the program. I relied a lot on my previous consulting experience to get the role and while being in a UX Design program helped my case, it wasn’t the sole reason I got my role. It closely resembled a Hackathon where we had to come up with an app, research it, and prototype it in 48 hours.
In-person or remote learning may be preferred depending on the student’s learning style. In-person education may be more beneficial for a student who enjoys or requires a collaborative environment or a classroom setting to learn. Ultimately, a UX designer’s job is to collaborate with other product designers, developers, and graphic designers to create a seamless experience for the user.

After evaluating the criteria it seemed like the MPS program was the fastest, covered the topics I wanted to learn, and though the tuition was still pretty high at around $38k it was still less than other masters programs. I had more time on my hands than usual due to the pandemic so the part-time online format allowed me to work and minimize opportunity cost. There was even an in-person residency weekend that allowed us to have an in-person experience that was unique. HCI and UX courses are taught by an interdisciplinary, world-class HCI/UX faculty with expertise and training in engineering/human factors, social sciences, multimedia design, education and healthcare.
